Le Déjeuner des Canotiers

Le Déjeuner des Canotiers

Pierre-Auguste Renoir, oil on canvas, 1881

The Luncheon of the Boating Party is unmistakably one of Renoir’s greatest masterpieces. The level of detail evident in, for example the still life, the characters’ faces and poses, and the moored boats, signifies a break in Renoir’s previous abstractions and a move towards a new post-impressionist style.
