A thicket of bluebells has exploded beneath the wide boughs of the Old Plane tree, in front of the New Buildings in Magdalen College. After a late start, I managed to do some work before going to see the Mendelssohn Octet and Mahler Symphony No 1 at the Sheldonian. Read more →

Pigeon and pheasant pie
This week’s Tudor cooking experiment involved game meat, goose lard and a lot of kneading. The results were delectable. Served warm with a rocket, goat’s cheese and beetroot salad. E and JP concurring. Read more →

Wandering Christ Church meadow after a research methodology seminar. Pink hues and scarlet clouds fade to purple as dusk settles over the plain. Read more →

Folly Bridge at dusk
Afflictive day spent reading, napping and daydreaming. An evening jog in the brisk March air did much to clear the head. I reached Folly Bridge just after sunset. Read more →

Walking back from the College boathouse after a successful day on the river. Our W1 team came head of the river; the men’s teams didn’t fare quite as well… Now time for the celebratory dinner. Read more →
